Chaitra Navratri 2019
The spring Navratri that opens the Hindu new year — nine nights of Durga from Gudi Padwa, culminating in Ram Navami.
Ghatasthapana: Saturday, 6 April 2019 · 9 nights
The meaning of Chaitra Navratri
Chaitra Navratri, also called Vasanta Navratri, opens the Hindu lunar year. Its first day is Gudi Padwa / Ugadi, the new year across the Deccan, and its ninth is Ram Navami, the birth of Rama at noon. The same nine forms of Durga are worshipped in order.
Where Sharad Navratri ends in Durga's victory, Chaitra ends in Rama's birth — the two great Navratris frame the year, one at the harvest, one at the sowing of spring.
The nine days, night by night
