When is Kajari Teej celebrated?
On the Tritiya of the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada, about two weeks after Raksha Bandhan, in the monsoon. For this year's date, see the date shown above.
Is Kajari Teej the same as Hariyali Teej?
No. Hariyali Teej is in the bright fortnight of Shravana; Kajari Teej is in the dark fortnight of Bhadrapada, roughly a month later, and centres on the moon and the neem with its own kajari songs.
Why is the Kajari Teej fast broken after moonrise?
The vrat concludes with arghya offered to the moon, so it is kept through the day and completed only once the moon has risen and been sighted at night.
Where is Kajari Teej mainly celebrated?
Most strongly in eastern Uttar Pradesh — Mirzapur and Banaras, home of the kajari song tradition — and in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar.
